The tyrant Manfred overwhelms Castle Monteforte. His Saracen pirates kill the Duke, whose daughter Elena manages to elude them. Richard, a knight whose band of men is loyal to the old Duke, rallies to her side killing Manfred in a duel after a bloody battle.
